The Association

Good to know

The Association "Historisches Festspiel - Der Meistertrunk" is a non-profit making independent association and was established in 1881. Besides the performances of the Meistertrunk Play, the Association organizes as well a vast framework of activities supporting the program of any of Rothenburg's Festival Days.

Furthermore, the Association runs its own Museum, the "Historiengewölbe - Historical Vaults" in the ground floor of the Town Hall's Gothic wing (underneath the tower, entrance in the patio), which counts ca. 70,000 visitors every year.

The Association is directed by a 7-members Managing Committee and a 22-members Central Committee. It consists of 23 different historical groups and counts more than 700 members.

Permanent Patron is always the Minister-President of Bavaria in office.

For the play itself in the Town Hall's Imperial Hall are at disposal a staff of two make-up artists, two lighting and sound engineers, one chief stage manager and six stage managers. Rehearsals are taken by a professional director engaged by the Association, at present Mr. Reiyk Bergemann.

Maintenance and repair of the more than 700 uniforms and costumes keep two sewers and dressers occupied all year round. New costumes are tailored by the Association's own dressmakers. Shoes, leather bags and sword scabbards are made by the Association's own shoemaker. Throughout the year, three other members of the Association care for the maintenance of the historic vehicle pool. Since summer 1999 the Association's own PR manager organizes all press and public relation work.
